Mētrŭm — Terms of Use
These terms govern your use of the Mētrŭm app — a Latin-verse scansion tool distributed as a progressive web app and as native iOS and Android builds. By installing or using Mētrŭm, you agree to what follows.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By installing, opening, or otherwise using Mētrŭm, you accept these Terms of Use. If you do not accept them, please do not install or use the app, and remove it from your device.
2. License to Use the App
Subject to your compliance with these terms, Evrard Consulting nv/sa grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Mētrŭm on devices that you own or control, for your own scholarly and educational use.
When you obtain Mētrŭm through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, the end-user licence terms of those stores also apply to your use, in addition to these Terms of Use.
3. Acceptable Use
Mētrŭm is intended for educational and scholarly engagement with Latin verse and its scansion. You agree that you will not:
(a) reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by applicable law; (b) redistribute, sublicense, sell, rent, or lease the app or any part of it; (c) remove, obscure, or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices contained in the app; (d) use the app, or any output it produces, to violate any applicable law or the rights of others.
4. Intellectual Property
The Mētrŭm app — including its scansion engine, its source and compiled code, its user interface, its visual identity, and the Mētrŭm name and wordmark — is the property of Evrard Consulting nv/sa and is protected by copyright and other intellectual-property laws.
Latin texts and translations included as demonstration or illustrative content are either in the public domain or used under customary scholarly quotation. Their inclusion in the app does not transfer any rights in those works beyond what applicable law already permits.
5. Third-Party Stores
Distribution of Mētrŭm through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store is governed by the respective terms of those stores in addition to these Terms of Use. In the event of a conflict between a store's terms and these Terms of Use with respect to the act of distribution itself, the store's terms govern that question.
6. Disclaimers of Warranty
Mētrŭm is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Latin scansion is computed on a best-effort basis. For ambiguous, corrupt, or unusual lines the app may produce imperfect or contested readings. Mētrŭm is a scholarly aid; it is not, and does not claim to be, an authoritative grammar, prosody, or textual-criticism resource.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Belgian law, Evrard Consulting nv/sa shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Mētrŭm app.
8. Governing Law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Kingdom of Belgium. Any disputes arising shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ghent, Belgium.
